Volleyball Unit

During the volleyball unit, we learned how to play volleyball and learning the rules that we use when playing it. We also played many volleyball matches after we had learned everything about serving and other forms like setting the ball and such.

I have learned very many things during our volleyball unit including how to set the ball for other teammates to spike it while it is high in the air or so that the ball will land closer to the net on the opponent's team so that it will be much harder for them to retaliate and hit it back at us if they were farther away from the net. When setting the ball, you should keep your knees bent and your hands above your head; open. When the ball comes to you, you push the ball away with your open hands and make it gently land where you want it to. This is a very helpful in terms of creating a strategy that will make the team fall back bumping the ball farther than normal and then if they bump it back, by setting it so that they will have no chance of coming back to stop the ball.

Along with the setting, the last part of the strategy mentioned above, there is also the bump. The bump is the basic pass in volleyball and it is the one that needs the least effort. The important thing when bumping is to bend your knees, put your hands together firmly with your elbows straight, and use your knees to power the pass and not your wrists. Using your wrists will hurt them and will also provide a very bad shot. The last basic thing that should be known if you are to play well in a game of volleyball is how to serve. This is a very important aspect of volleyball and, most of the time, the key to winning. If an excellent serve is made on your team each time, then it can almost ensure and excellent game for you. Like the above two positions, when you serve, your knees should be bent a little as to provide extra power to the serve. There are two common ways of serving. The first is to throw the ball in the air in front of you and bump it from there. The second is throw it in the air above you and hit it from there. Both are very useful ways but, in my opinion, the second is much better as it provides a more powerful shot that can distract your opponent and win the game for you.

These three things are the basic movements and basic positions that are used worldwide throughout volleyball. I also learned all the rules and borderlines of volleyball but I will not be elaborating upon them here.
